GINUX: 10 Steps to an Eco-friendly Lifestyle

It may be hard to believe, but the global environmental advocacies have little to no effect. Why? Well, it’s mostly due to the lifestyle that the humanity sustain, since people themselves negate all the efforts environmentalists take to install the right values and change the way people think. How can we change that? We need to start with ourselves. Here is a number of tips that will help you become “greener” (not in the angry-Hulk-smash way):

1. Leave the car at home

If you’re looking to cut your carbon footprint, an easy way to do so is to rethink how you drive your car. Explore local public transport networks. If you don’t like to ride the bus or subway, why not subscribe to a car sharing platform? Or take a bike and exercise.

2. Keep track of your water consumption

Around the world, fresh water is becoming an increasingly valuable resource. Fortunately, there are many small and easy ways to reduce your water consumption in and around your home. These include water-saving shower heads and shower timers.

3. Switch to paperless banking

It’s easy to make banking completely paperless these days. While most major retail banks are offering more and more paperless options, the easiest way to go paperless is to sign up for mobile banking. You will not only be able to fill out an application for opening an account in a few minutes, but also receive all invoices and correspondence directly to your phone.

4. Replace old appliances

The numbers show that the new appliance will not only use less energy, but will also save you money on your bills. And of course, if you’re replacing old appliances, don’t forget to recycle them efficiently or sell them!

5. Buy local

Products on supermarket shelves come from all over the world, whether fresh or frozen. Experts call this distance “food miles,” and managing them is an important part of a sustainable lifestyle. But what can you do to reduce your weekly grocery shopping mileage? Firstly, being in the supermarket choose local products, or seasonal fruits and vegetables instead of those grown abroad. The second way to do this is to shop at local stores.

6. Recycle, recycle, recycle

When trying to live more sustainably, it’s important to remember the three R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. Find out whether there are any waste collection centers in the vicinity where items such as clothes, shoes and glass bottles can be recycled.

7. Grow your own

Growing food at home is becoming more and more popular. Even growing something as simple as dill and parsley on a windowsill helps reduce environmental emissions.

8. Ethical shopping

A large number of respondents stated that they were willing to pay more for products from brands that adhere to ethical principles, while only 30% actually do this. This percentage has not changed since 1999. By choosing certified products that are sustainably produced, you contribute to the protection of the environment.

9. Do not use disposable items

Disposable tableware, plastic water bottles and other disposable products pollute the air. It is better to use reusable products, water bottles, reusable picnic utensils etc.
